  • Open Educational Resources (OER)

OER are learning materials freely available for people and organisations to use, distribute or adapt as required without having to ask our permission.

We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for you to do this by taking the content from our most popular learning materials, stripping them of copyright material, licensing them as Creative Commons and putting it all into an easy to adapt format like a Word document.

We encourage you to take the material in our OER and adapt it to make it relevant to where you work by including your organisation’s own policies and guidance.

You might use our OER to:

    • create a presentation, video or podcast
    • create a course on your organisation’s learning management system
    • build a website
    • build your own smartphone or tablet app.
    • OER available from the SSSC

This is our current list of learning resources which are available as OER. Click on one of the resources below and look for the OER section on that page. We're adding more OER all the time, so please bookmark this page and come back soon.

    • OER guidance and resources

New to this and want to know more about open educational practice? We've put together a list of websites where you can find out more.

    • How are you using our OER?

You don't need to ask our permission to use any of our OER (so long as it's not for commerical purposes), but we always like to hear about the new ways our OER are being put to use. We might even feature an example or two here.

If you want to share what you've made with our OER or have any feedback, please email us at
